Card by Card – Three of Pentacles

The Aquatic Tarot Three of Pentacles

If you missed last weeks post on the Two of Wands, you can read about it here.

The Three of Pentacles is the randomly drawn COTW-card of the week.   What does it mean when you receive this card in a one card daily drawing or it turns up in a spread?

Just like last week, I’ll be taking a look at several variations from different decks and gathering that particular Author and/or Artists thoughts and perspectives.

Let’s take a look and see what we can discover about the Three of Pentacles.  The first one up is from the Aquatic Tarot.    As far as I can tell there is no (lwb) for this deck, so I will be consulting Tarot Your Everyday Guide by Janina Renee, to help get us started.

“The Three of Pentacles denotes the personal expression achieved when creative energy is applied to the materials that Earth provides us.  The results are joy in the creative process, pride in craftsmanship, and products of beauty and value.”

In this RWS clone, we see what appears to be three artisans collaborating on a job site.  (That’s what it reminds me of anyway) Maybe one is an architect, one is a carpenter, and the other a contractor.  They each have a very distinct skill on their own, but by bringing them together they compliment each others craft.

Sample Keywords:  Skill in craft, contract, fruition of training, master-craftsman, work rewarded, collaboration, cooperation.

Pentacles are also known as Coins, Disks, Wheels, and Stones, just to name a few.  Although, Pentacles or Coins seem to be the most common and they are associated with the element of Earth.

Our first pair are a little less traditional.  The Three of Stones from the WildWood Tarot (Sterling Publishing 2011) by Mark Ryan and John Matthews and illustrated by Will Worthington and the Three of Coins from the Old English Tarot (U.S. Games Systems, Inc. 1997)  by Maggie Kneen.

Three of Stones - WildWood Tarot & Three of Coins - Old English Tarot

Three of Stones – Creativity – “An artist listens to the inner voice and hears the wind song of the universe.  The courage, freedom and skill that allow the artist to mediate this energy must be refined and focused for effective and meaningful achievement.”  (pg. 117)

Three of Coins – Great skill, mastery, artistic ability, perfection.

This next pair are from The Wizards Tarot (Llewellyn Worldwide 2011) by Corrine Kenner – illustrated by John J. Blumen, and the Mystic Faerie Tarot (Llewellyn Worldwide 2007) by Barbara Moore and illustrated by Linda Ravenscroft.

Three of Pentacles - Wizards Tarot & Mystic Faerie Tarot

The Wizards Tarot – The Three of Pentacles is a card of mastery and crafsmanship.  Focus on this card when you want to find guidance, training, and advice on a creative project.  (pg. 191)

Mystic Faery Tarot –  Your Message – You have many wonderful skills, and now is the time to put those skills to good use.  Work carefully and thoroughly, doing the b est that you can.  Create things that are useful and things that bring joy to your life.  Experience the pleasure of doing something well.  (pg. 185)

The last pair are from the Joie de Vivre Tarot (U.S. Games Systems, Inc. 2011) by Paulina Cassidy and the Crystal Visions Tarot (U.S. Games Systems, Inc. 2011) by Jennifer Galasso.

Three of Pentacles - Joie de Vivre Tarot & Crystal Visions Tarot

Joie De Vivre – Progress, success, perseverance, teamwork, planning.  Harmony shines as Soma, Pneuma, and Psyche combine their concentrated creative energies.  Focused and committed, their cooperation delivers healthy progress and quality workmanship.  (pg. 49)

Crystal Visions – The Three of Pentacles signifies completion of a short-term goal.  This card is a reminder to see the bigger picture.  With careful planning, determination, persistence, and hard work, your dreams can be achieved.  (pg. 40)

The Three of Pentacles is card 71 in the Tarot Dynamics system.  “Subject Card Three is for thinking and networking.  Keywords:  Ambitious/Thinking and Networking.  “Whatever your situation you can clearly see what will and will not work for you now.  The Three of Pentacles can be particularly favorable for anyone who is about to launch a well-planned endeavor, or take an established job or relationship to the next level.  Card 71 also favors everyone who is seeking a better way to build or rebuild their life.”   Tarot Dynamics Unleashed by Anna Burroughs Cook, my book review can be seen here.

What keywords or phrases to you associate with the Three of Pentacles?

Please join me over the next week as I’ll be looking at the Three of Pentacles more in depth and combined with a new COTD each day.  Stop over at New Paths Tarot -Facebook page and get in the discussion.

Until next time, Happy Tarot’ing and May Your Journey be an Enchanted one.

One Response to Card by Card – Three of Pentacles

  1. Thanks for this, Koneta. Nice write-up and nicely illustrated too. This quote spoke to me: “Harmony shines as Soma, Pneuma, and Psyche combine their concentrated creative energies. Focused and committed, their cooperation delivers healthy progress and quality workmanship.” It helps me focus on balance in the creative process. 🙂
