“The devil tempts us not–’tis we tempt him, Beckoning his skill with opportunity.”

~GEORGE ELIOT

We have a tendency to get in our own way, to trip ourselves up – a habit of self sabotaging our efforts.  I don’t think we even realize or recognize this type of behavior in ourselves, but I think most of us, if we are honest with ourselves, will admit to this type of behavior.  It’s easier to point fingers and blame others or situations for our failures, but that doesn’t make it so.

“The Devil represents a behavior or situation that holds us in bondage.  It is usually not something forced upon us but rather is completely our own choice.  Likewise, no one else will take the chains off us.  We put them there, we must take them off.”  (pg 58-59) Llewellyn’s Classic Companion
